Hi
Finally got the courage to introduce myself after being a member for just over a year.
I'm Sharon and I got diagnosed in Jan 2012 at the age of 34. I was suffering with symptoms for just over 5 months so I realise how lucky I am to get diagnosed so quickly after reading some of your posts. I'm a PE teacher so my job became impossible for me for most of last year but I am finally feeling like my old self again. I am currently on 20mg of Methotrexate a week, which seem to be working extremely well at the moment, touch wood!

Reading everyone posts over the last year has helped me to slowly come to terms with disease and realise that there is light at the end of tunnel, so much so that I am taking part in this year skydive which I think I'm looking forward too!!! Unsure
Nice to meet you all

Sharon

Hi Sharon

It's a lot to take in isn't it? I often wake up and think this can't be right! I am only 6 weeks officially diagnosed and am on 20mg metho too.

I am glad you are feeling like your old self again. Are you aiming to go back to your old job? Best wishes for the skydive - when does that take place? You are a braver person than me.

Speak to you soon.

Lisa xx

Hi Sharon, and welcome to the forum - though sorry you have RA. Like you, I was diagnosed fairly quickly, but it still took a while for it to sink in. I was diagnosed in January 2006, and had a tough 18 months, but once on the right meds things improved considerably. MTX didn`t work for me, unfortunately, but most people do well on it.

I`m a retired teacher - I taught PE in a big comprehensive for many years. After two lots of Achilles surgery I was advised to stop the PE, so until my retirement I did some RE teaching, and a bit of Special Needs.

Good luck with the job, and with the sky dive - very brave of you!

Kathleen x

Hello Sharon and welcome to the forum.

What a positive post for anyone just being diagnosed that you now beginning to feel like your old self again. I do realise that there is lots of members reading and not posting. It took me a few months before I took the plunge and introduced myself. (Anyone else reading and not posting, do come and join us).

I do envy you going sky diving, it is something that I want to do, but I know I would never pluck up the courage to do it.....you are alot braver than me.

Keep posting and do let us know how you get on with your *Jump*.

Hi Sharon - great to hear from you. If you've been reading the forum for a while you'll probably know me as I'm a bit of a chatterbox!!

Your skydive sounds incredible - I am in awe of anyone who can leap out of an airplane! I've just got back from a 2 week trip to India and Nepal and the closest to skydiving I got was a flight in a little 16 seater plane to fly around the Himalyas and see Everest - that was a terrific adventure and just goes to prove that RA isn't a life sentence - we can break out of our limits and really go for it!!

I bet your students are impressed with their dare devil teacher - if you're raising funds then please do post your page link here, I'd like to sponsor you.

Very best wishes and do post - it's great to have new stuff to chat about! Sylvia xxx

Hi Sharon great to her from you, sorry to hear you have RA but good to know it sounds well under control, if you have to have it , now is a good time as there are so many drugs that make a real difference to living a fairly normal life, not that sky diving is normal, you must be brave to do that.
Best wishes
Sheila
